balance your checkbook at home and you pay your bills and you show up for work. washington hasn't balanced it's checkbook. it has to borrow money from the chinese to pay its bills. barely shows any real work or progress on our behalf. maybe they just aren't listening to us any more. it occurred to me if they won't listen to us i wonder if they will listen to a stronger voice. i wonder if they will listen to god? walls of water party, or signs and watonders. sometimes you speak them in a still small voice. since the leaders from either party don't seem to listen to us wonder what would happen if we asked god to speak to them so maybe they would listen to him. it may be a good day for somebody to have more of a million voice march on capitol hill. what if millions of americans simply prayed that day for our nation our leaders and. i am not talking about partisan prayer. i am not sure the almighty would register with either of the parties we have now. not even a political prayer. i am not sure what the creator would like to reveal. what if millions of americans just set aside a few minutes to

live in washington. well, there they were side-by-side, and for real they were in the white house this weekend. president obama taking his message of middle class tax cuts and tax increases for the rich to detroit today. just as michigan is facing a big vote against union organizing in a state long identified with the labor movement. joining me now for our daily fix, msnbc contributor and managing editor of "post politics.com". good day to you. well, first of all, the labor movement really on the ropes now in michigan of all places. michigan where detroit, of course, was the heart of the auto movement, the auto union, and now you've got a vote -- final vote is tomorrow as the president is being greeted by rick snyder, the governor, who says he will sign that, and to union right to work legislation. what does that really mean? >> well, so what you have here, this is something that's passed in 20 plus states. what it essentially says is you do not have to pay union dues in order to be employed. unions view it as a direct attack on their -- the power of organized labor, which comes a

. we covered that story last year when boeing wanted to move its facility out of washington to south carolina one of the reasons they wanted to do that, bill, because south carolina is a right-to-work state. it is huge for the economic future of michigan. the other point i would like to make, bill, unions say this is anti-worker, when in fact it is exactly opposite. all right to work laws do, people get confused about this, all these laws do say the union has the right to establish itself but every individual worker has the right to decide whether they want to join that union or not. and i think that's certainly something that every, kind of a civil right. every worker should have that right in my opinion. bill: you're of the free economics mind anyway. >> that's true. bill: you will argue this will help michigan's economy, in a word you're saying yes? >> definitely. bill: matt, what do you think impact of the law could be? >> if you look at numbers, bill, steve hit it right on the head. 2001 to 2011, look at right to work states. inflation adjusted compensation rose private sector e
